What does 3D printing look like when it moves beyond a hobby bench and into a fashion studio, an experimental aircraft project or an architecture classroom?

2. H+R Drone Racing: Printing Parts for an Ambitious Aircraft Harry and Richard Harry and Richard of H+R Drone Racing grew up around radio-controlled aircraft. Their projects developed from RC planes made with traditional materials into original drones, FPV concepts and experimental aircraft that required custom parts.

For one of their most ambitious builds, the brothers set out to create a large quadcopter. The project involved calculations, component sourcing, CAD design, 3D printing, assembly, electronics and repeated flight testing. Many of the required parts were not available in a shop, so they had to be designed for the aircraft itself.

3. Unitec Makerspace: Making Architecture Tangible Carl Salas sharing his architectural models at the PB Tech store At the Unitec School of Architecture in New Zealand, lecturer Carl Salas has helped build a makerspace where students can move beyond drawings and digital renders to test physical architectural models.

The facility grew from a small setup with two printers into a makerspace with more than six Creality machines. Students now use digital fabrication for building models, furniture joints, façade systems, sculptural components and other experimental work.
