Creality’s 3D scanner lineup — including models such as the Raptor, Otter, and Sermoon series — delivers high precision in a compact and affordable form. With accuracy up to 0.02mm and a scanning range from 5mm to 4000mm, Creality scanners support a wide variety of applications, from reverse engineering and product design to inspection and digital archiving. 3D reverse engineering to CAD is the process of capturing and reproducing an original 3D part—sometimes called “remodelling.” The process begins with digitising the part using a 3D scanner, producing a scan file typically in the form of a point cloud or mesh. Various post-processing steps then follow to create a 3D engineering model that can be used in manufacturing or production processes.

While 3D printing (additive manufacturing) is one possible use of this workflow, reverse engineering applies across a wide range of manufacturing methods, such as machining, turning, forming, and sheet-metal fabrication. In this workflow, the scanner and its software capture and prepare raw scan data, but even a high-quality mesh is significantly different from a CAD model and cannot usually be used directly for manufacturing. A bridging step is required — and QUICKSURFACE is recognised as a leading software platform that fills this gap for desktop engineers.

For example, an automotive repair engineer can scan a damaged plastic intake manifold using the Creality Raptor 3D scanner to capture its complex geometry. The raw scan data is then imported into QUICKSURFACE, where the engineer can rebuild the original CAD model within minutes — ready for 3D printing or CNC machining of the replacement part. This workflow dramatically reduces turnaround time and improves the precision of part reproduction.
