1. Design
Motion System: The Ender-3 V2 uses a Cartesian i3 independent motor control motion system, resulting in a heavy print head assembly with high inertia, limiting print speed and compromising quality at high speeds. The guide mechanism uses V-wheels paired with profiles, which results in shorter life and inconvenient maintenance.
In contrast, the Ender-3 V3 uses the latest CoreXZ motion system, where all three-axis motors are fixed in place while the XZ timing belts are automatically tensioned. This design reduces the weight of the printhead assembly, doubles the drive torque, and delivers superior results at high speeds. All guidance mechanisms utilize high-precision linear shafts that offer longer life and require only lubrication for maintenance, making maintenance simple and convenient.
Printer Build: The X and Y-axis, as well as the extruder motor of the Ender-3 V2 are bloated and exposed, lacking in aesthetics. However, in the Ender-3 V3, the motors are ingeniously concealed, with the extruder motor completely hidden within the shell of the print head, resulting in a sleek and stable design. The Ender-3 V2 was released in May 2020. It's an early model in the Ender series, rocking the traditional Cartesian motion system and Marlin firmware. With a standard printing speed of 50mm/s and a max speed of just 100mm/s, it's on the slower side. 3. Build Plate
The Ender-3 V2 Heatbed can be heated up to 100°C and features a Carborundum Glass Plate. This glass plate is more heavier and requires waiting for the model to cool down before taking the model. While the Ender-3 V3 Headbed can reach up to 110°C and utilizes a flexible textured PEI plate. The PEI coating enables adhesion to models printed with various materials. Additionally, the spring steel base allows for easy model release with just a slight bend.
4. Extrusion and Cooling
The Ender-3 V2 is equipped with remote extrusion and a 40W heater that can reach temperatures up to 260°C. However, its motor is bulky and heavy, resulting in sub-par extrusion performance. While the PTFE tube is beginner-friendly, its drawbacks include limited heating capacity and sluggish heater rod speed, resulting in cumbersome maintenance.
Conversely, the Ender-3 V3 retains the use of the V3 KE 60W ceramic heater, K1C integrated copper alloy nozzle and titanium alloy throat. Streamlined maintenance procedures and improved performance allow the printer to easily achieve a maximum extrusion temperature of 300°C, facilitating seamless melting of ABS, PETG and other high-temperature filaments likes Nylon and PC.
It's also worth mentioning that the V2 only comes with a single component cooling fan, whereas the V3 boasts dual cooling fans. This upgrade ensures V3 users enjoy better print quality, especially on overhangs.
Regarding automatic calibration, while V2 necessitates manual leveling of nuts and the use of A4 paper, V3 achieves fully automatic leveling. Users simply need to ont tap on the touchscreen to complete the process and commence printing. Additionally, the filament runout sensor on the V3 is expected to reduce print failures, as it will pause the printer's operation in case of filament breakage or depletion mid-print.
5. Fireware
Many of Creality's initial printers utilized Marlin as their 3D printer firmware, with V2 being one of them. With V3, Creality introduces "CrealityOS," an extension of KE's open-source Klipper firmware. This upgrade unlocks numerous advanced functions like linear advance and input shaping. Users have the option to customize it themselves or participate in the open-source community to delve deeper into its capabilities.
6. UI
The V2 is equipped with a 4.3-inch knob-controlled screen for printer monitoring and control.
