Part1: Ender-3 V3 Review: Have a Close Look

Let's have a look at what makes the Ender 3 v3 so special.

1. CoreXZ Motion System - Born for Speed The Ender-3 V3 differs from all other Ender series printers by incorporating the innovative CoreXZ motion system. In this system, the X-axis and Z-axis are rigged together, allowing two high-torque motors to coordinate and operate rapidly. This unique setup enables the Ender-3 V3 to print 12 times faster than a typical i3-type 3D printer, reaching Max printing speeds of 600 mm/s and a Max acceleration of 20000 mm/s². In addition, the Ender 3 v3's XZ timing belts automatically tensioned, reducing Z-axis wobble and ensuring more precise positioning, resulting in superior print quality compared to previous models.

2. Sleek and Stable Metal Build with Die-cast Parts The gantry and base of the Ender-3 V3 are both integrated aluminum alloy die-castings, with fewer bolts and seams, seamlessly combining aesthetics with stability. Made of ADC12 aluminum alloy, it boasts great mechanical strength, with a tensile strength of ≥205MPa* and a Brinell hardness of ≥75HBW*.

3. Direct Extrusion on Full Power The Ender-3 V3 upgrades its extruder. The extruder's side spring, enhancing the gripping force of the extrusion gear. With a ball plunger, it locks the extruder lever in place. Utilizing powder metallurgy rods, it is less prone to deformation, maintaining extrusion pressure. These enhancements make the Ender-3 V3 extruder more robust and durable, capable of achieving over 1000 hours of Clog-free extrusion.

4. Integrated Tri-metal Nozzle, Quick to Swap Like the K1C, the Ender-3 V3 features an integral copper alloy nozzle that can be easily replaced with a single wrench, making maintenance simple yet powerful. It has a titanium alloy throat tube. With a 60W ceramic hotend heater, it delivers full power and can rapidly heat up to 300°C in just 75s*.

5. Two Mighty Fans for Instant Cooling The Ender-3 V3 is equipped with two fans on the print head, positioned front and back, to quickly and evenly cool newly printed sections. This setup perfectly prevents problems such as drooping, warping, or stringing. In addition, the print head fan is dynamically balanced to reduce vibration.

6. Auto Calibration for Leveling and More One-tap calibration, auto Z-offset & leveling, effortlessly get everything for you, allowing you to embark on your printing journey with ease. Utilizing the same 4.3-inch HD touchscreen as the K1 series, it vividly displays the temperature leveling process and model previews through motion graphics.

Now we will delve into the most important differences between the Ender-3 V3 and the V2.

1. Design Motion System : The Ender-3 V2 uses a Cartesian i3 independent motor control motion system, resulting in a heavy print head assembly with high inertia, limiting print speed and compromising quality at high speeds. The guide mechanism uses V-wheels paired with profiles, which results in shorter life and inconvenient maintenance.

In contrast, the Ender-3 V3 uses the latest CoreXZ motion system, where all three-axis motors are fixed in place while the XZ timing belts are automatically tensioned. This design reduces the weight of the printhead assembly, doubles the drive torque, and delivers superior results at high speeds. All guidance mechanisms utilize high-precision linear shafts that offer longer life and require only lubrication for maintenance, making maintenance simple and convenient.

Printer Build : The X and Y-axis, as well as the extruder motor of the Ender-3 V2 are bloated and exposed, lacking in aesthetics. However, in the Ender-3 V3, the motors are ingeniously concealed, with the extruder motor completely hidden within the shell of the print head, resulting in a sleek and stable design. Additionally, the gantry and base, both die-cast as a single unit, require only 8 screws for assembly, ensuring both quality and stability.

2. Build Plate The Ender-3 V2 Heatbed can be heated up to 100°C and features a Carborundum Glass Plate. This glass plate is more heavier and requires waiting for the model to cool down before taking the model. While the Ender-3 V3 Headbed can reach up to 110°C and utilizes a flexible textured PEI plate. The PEI coating enables adhesion to models printed with various materials. Additionally, the spring steel base allows for easy model release with just a slight bend.

3. Extrusion and Cooling The Ender-3 V2 is equipped with remote extrusion and a 40W heater that can reach temperatures up to 260°C. However, its motor is bulky and heavy, resulting in sub-par extrusion performance. While the PTFE tube is beginner-friendly, its drawbacks include limited heating capacity and sluggish heater rod speed, resulting in cumbersome maintenance.

Conversely, the Ender-3 V3 retains the use of the V3 KE 60W ceramic heater, K1C integrated copper alloy nozzle and titanium alloy throat. Streamlined maintenance procedures and improved performance allow the printer to easily achieve a maximum extrusion temperature of 300°C, facilitating seamless melting of ABS, PETG and other high-temperature filaments likes Nylon and PC.

It's also worth mentioning that the V2 only comes with a single component cooling fan, whereas the V3 boasts dual cooling fans. This upgrade ensures V3 users enjoy better print quality, especially on overhangs.

Regarding automatic calibration, while V2 necessitates manual leveling of nuts and the use of A4 paper, V3 achieves fully automatic leveling. Users simply need to ont tap on the touchscreen to complete the process and commence printing. Additionally, the filament runout sensor on the V3 is expected to reduce print failures, as it will pause the printer's operation in case of filament breakage or depletion mid-print.

4. Fireware Many of Creality's initial printers utilized Marlin as their 3D printer firmware, with V2 being one of them. With V3, Creality introduces "CrealityOS," an extension of KE's open-source Klipper firmware. This upgrade unlocks numerous advanced functions like linear advance and input shaping. Users have the option to customize it themselves or participate in the open-source community to delve deeper into its capabilities.

5. UI The V2 is equipped with a 4.3-inch knob-controlled screen for printer monitoring and control. In comparison, the V3 features a 4.3-inch color touchscreen, similar to the K1 Series printers, boasting HD resolution*. This touchscreen enables users to monitor and control every aspect of the printer's operation seamlessly.

In terms of file transfer capabilities, the V2 offers a full-size SD card slot and a USB-C port. In contrast, the KE initially offered users the option of USB, LAN or wireless transfer via Creality Print or the Creality Cloud mobile app. However, users may find the web interfaces more advantageous as they offer more comprehensive control functions.

6. Price the V2 priced at $175 which is very affordable, and you can get one for under $200. In contrast, the V3 retailed at $389which is about $200 more expensive with so many upgraded features.

It’s worth considering that any upgrades will increase the cost of either printer. For example, upgrading the V2 to Klipper would require a Sonic Pad or Nebula Smart Kit from Creality – currently priced at ~ $139 and ~ $85 respectively. Throw in an extruder upgrade for nylon and PC printing (if you’d like to print either material) as well as a PEI plate, and you’re well over the price of the V3.
