When using an Ender 3 printer, optimizing PETG print speed is key to achieving high-quality prints. Ideal Print Speed for PETG on the Ender 3 For PETG print speed on the Ender 3, starting at 40-60 mm/s is recommended. While you might be tempted to print faster, this could lead to issues such as poor layer adhesion and stringing.

Detailed Speed Settings 1. First Layer Speed : Set it to 20-30 mm/s . A slower first layer ensures better bed adhesion.

2. Infill Speed : 60 mm/s works well while maintaining accuracy.

3. Outer Wall Speed : Keep it around 20-30 mm/s for better surface finish.

4. Inner Wall Speed : You can go up to 40-60 mm/s as precision is less critical here.

5. Top/Bottom Speed : Adjust to 30 mm/s for top-layer and bottom-layer consistency.

Bed Adhesion 3D printing PETG on the Ender 3 can seem challenging, but with the right settings, it becomes much simpler.

1. Bed Temperature : Given the high melting temperature of PETG, set your Ender 3’s bed temperature between 50°C and 60°C .

2. Build Surface: Cover the print bed with blue painter’s tape for secure yet removable prints. Kapton tape is another good option. Be cautious: if the initial layer height is too small, PETG might fuse to the bed, potentially causing damage. If using a glass build plate, apply a thin layer of hairspray, glue stick, or a specialty bed adhesive to prevent fusing.

Initial Layer Height PETG behaves differently from ABS and PLA. Increase the initial layer height by 0.02-mm increments until it’s perfect. If you frequently find yourself releveling the bed, consider upgrading to an auto bed leveling system like the BLTouch.

Print Temperature & Cooling Hot End Temperature : Set between 220°C and 250°C . However, due to the Bowden setup on the Ender 3s, which has a PTFE tube leading to the hot end, keep the temperature below 240°C to avoid damaging the printer and releasing hazardous fumes.

Part Cooling Fan: Turn off the fan for the first two layers, then set it to the highest speed for the rest of the print to enhance detail and limit stringing. For better layer adhesion and strength, print without a fan or with a very low speed, but expect more stringing.
