Why I Scan — Share Your 3D Scanning Story
3D scanning is no longer just a tool for professionals—it’s a practical way to turn concepts into precise CAD models, repair broken parts, measure with accuracy, and create custom designs. Every scan delivers a result and serves a purpose, whether in engineering, education, DIY, or daily life.
With the #WhyIScan campaign, we want to highlight these real-world applications. By sharing your scanning stories, you can show how this technology helps solve problems, inspires creativity, and adds value to everyday projects.

Recreating the Mercedes 190 Evo 2 with 3D Scanning
Max always dreamed of the Mercedes 190 Evo 2. Starting with an Ender 3 v2, he overcame endless printer issues and months of trial and error before finally 3D printing a custom spoiler that quickly caught attention online.
After struggling with slow photogrammetry workflows, he turned to the Farrett Pro scanner, cutting processing time from 12–20 hours down to just minutes. Its portability and direct phone connection made scanning fast, simple, and reliable.
Within a year, he not only recreated his dream car’s body kit but also inspired others—helping over a dozen enthusiasts adopt 3D scanning. For him, scanning is more than a tool; it’s the bridge between passion and creation.
Reverse Engineering a Go-Kart Frame with the Raptor Scanner
Van KarWal turned to 3D scanning to take on a challenging project—reverse engineering a go-kart frame for custom parts development. Traditional measurement methods would have been time-consuming and less accurate, but with scanning, he could capture the full geometry quickly and precisely.
To enhance accuracy, he even created magnetic 3D cubes with 6 mm reflective markers, then scanned the frame in 5 sessions using the Raptor scanner in blue laser mode, each session capturing around 1.5 million points. The result was a highly detailed digital model of the frame.
Once the scan was complete, he modeled the design and printed a small-scale version on the Hi printer. For him, scanning is the key to saving time, ensuring precision, and unlocking new creative possibilities in engineering projects.
Scanning, printing—you name it. Brand trusted.
Muravey 2M01 Head Cowl Reproduction
Tamás Bernáth Reproduced the discontinued head cowl of a Muravey 2M01 scooter was made possible with the Creality Ferret Pro 3D scanner. The scan provided an accurate digital reference, allowing quick CAD reconstruction and perfect fit with minimal test prints.
The final part, printed in PETG on a large-format custom printer, will be painted for an OEM finish.
Fast, precise, and reliable—3D scanning turned an impossible replacement into reality.

For Karl Paul from Liverpool, 3D scanning is more than technology—it’s a way to preserve history and create lasting memories.
From cultural icons like Paul McCartney and the Bob Paisley statue, to local landmarks and personal projects, each scan tells a story. His most meaningful work has been scanning the hands of hospice patients, giving families a priceless keepsake.
For Karl, scanning means preserving, encouraging, and remembering—turning moments into something that lasts forever.
Why “Why I Scan”?
Behind every scan, there’s a story.
It might be solving a challenge at work, realizing a creative idea, or simply repairing something meaningful.
By sharing your journey, you not only get a chance to win prizes but also inspire others to discover what’s possible with 3D scanning.
Join us and tell the world: Why I Scan.
