Top 6 Consulting Questions for Otter & Raptor

1. How to turn on the Otter & Raptor lights?

Both the Otter and Raptor scanners come with LED lights, the number is 2 and 12 respectively, the LED lights are controlled by the software, after the computer has successfully connected to the scanner and entered the preview state, there is a switch to control the LED lights in the bottom left corner above the screen window.

2. How to set the Raptor scanner accuracy to 0.02mm?

After scanning the object in blue mode, put the mouse on the optimization setting item in the side toolbar, the parameter setting window will pop up, tick Super Detail, you can set the point distance to 0.02mm. Then click Tools Optimize Point Cloud in turn.

Note: At the beginning of the point distance setting can only be selected as low as 0.1mm, because 0.02mm scanning process will call a large number of algorithms, which will affect the scanning process (such as the software crash and flashback); in the Super Detail Processing checkbox, do not point a build processing, otherwise it will be in accordance with the default parameters of the point cloud data processing, you can only manually select the function of processing the point cloud in turn.

3. What is the scanning accuracy of the Otter and Raptor scanners?

Otter scanner: 0.02mm@60mm;

Raptor scanner: 0.02mm@100mm.

@60mm and @100mm means that in the scanning distance, scanning 60mm or 100mm length of the object, can achieve ± 0.02mm accuracy.

4. Frequent reminders about tracking loss during scanning

This tip is a reminder of the scanning point cloud and the current scanning position is inconsistent with the result, you can return to the surface has been scanned to allow the software to identify and then continue to scan, there is a suggestion that customers move slowly in the scanning process, especially when scanning a more delicate side.

Note: The scanning process must be slow to move the scanner, not fast.

5. Unable to scan pure black or white objects

General scanning object colour is only one colour, and the object features are not obvious, the scanner can not be identified, and the collected point cloud does not form has been rotated, it is recommended that the surface of the object or the desktop attached to the marker point to help the scanner to identify the characteristics of the goods.

Note: The number of markers in marker mode should be ≥ 4.

6. How can I remove the marker points on the scanned model, even if the marker points are attached to the object?

When scanning in Blue Mode and Marker Mode, after the point cloud data processing stage, the mouse pointer on the right side of the optimization settings will pop up the settings window, check the box to remove the markers, and then perform the point cloud processing.

Note: If there is no complete removal of marked points and residual, the current file of the project file, the software log feedback, we recommend customers to re-scan to see.

1. Raptor Scanner optimization "stuck" after scanning a model.

1.1 Error description:

Scanning is completed for optimization, manually set a relatively small point distance, resulting in the optimization time is too long, stuck in a position to stay for a long time.

1.2 Cause Analysis:

Optimization manually set a smaller point distance (such as Otter infrared scanning is less than 0.1mm, or Raptor blue scanning is less than 0.05mm), the amount of calculations required is relatively large, if the computer performance is not strong enough, it will result in optimization of a certain part of the dwell time is too long.

1.3 Troubleshooting and solution:

  • Update the software to version 3.2.x or higher.
  • When optimizing the point cloud, it is recommended not to use too small a point spacing (e.g. 0.02mm) for optimization at the beginning, and to use 0.1 or 0.05mm point spacing for optimization according to actual needs.
  • After scanning, delete the unwanted parts of the point cloud before optimization to save optimization time.
  • If the optimization keeps getting stuck on the same percentage point, try scanning half of the model, processing the data, and then creating a new project to scan the other part if it does not get stuck on the progress bar, and then stitching the model together.
  • Have the customer provide computer configuration information to determine if they meet the minimum computer configuration requirements for using the scanner.
  • Provide the software log.

  • Instruct the customer to download the latest version of the scanning software from the Creative Cloud.
  • Have the customer switch the other USB3.0 port to connect the scanner, or switch other computers to try to reconnect the scanner.
  • Ask the customer to open Device Manager to check that the computer is detected as a scanner and that the Scan-Raptor camera module is not displayed so that the data cable can be replaced.
  • If the scanner module is detected in Device Manager but the software still prompts that the scanner is not connected, have the customer try connecting the scanner to a passive USB3.0 hub device.
  • Provide the software log.

3. Otter scanner button not responding

3.1 Error description:

When you touch the Start/Pause button in the scan preview interface, the software does nothing and the scanner makes no sound;

3.2 Cause Analysis:

  • The principle of touch keys is through the human body and the touch coil line into a capacitance to sense, contact the supplier to investigate the cause, may be the bottom of the key panel paint layer conductive, forming a conductor surface, when the touch circuit formed another capacitance, when the surface resistance of the paint surface is lower than the human body resistance, and the distance from the coil is very close to this capacitance is greater than the human body capacitance, resulting in a decrease in the inductive sensitivity of the human capacitance, resulting in the failure of touch control.
  • The back of the panel spray oil is black, need to add carbon black particles to dye, and carbon black particles conductive properties, carbon black particles gathered together to form a conductive. When the resistance value is 0.2~0.4MΩ, it will not work. Spray paint contains carbon, carbon aggregation conductive

3.3 Troubleshooting and solution:

Send troubleshooting methods and let the customer provide error video, collect the customer to purchase the scanner order number, scanner SN code, the customer's country / region to determine belongs to the main bad arrangements for replacement and collect information registration or feedback technical support.
